Saturday, Spain announced that a second patient diagnosed with monkeypox had died, just a day after what is believed to be Europe’s first monkeypox-related death was announced.
A total of 3,750 patients have been diagnosed with monkeypox, and out of the 120 who were hospitalized, two people died, the Spanish health ministry said in a report, without specifying the date of the second death, according to AFP.
Notably, the World Health Organization has declared the disease a global health emergency, its highest alert level.
Most of the cases were recorded in Europe, which accounts for 70 percent of new cases recorded since early May.
